Travel Information and Recommendations

There is no public transportation to Brissac. Visitors will need a car.  Our excellent pictorial driving directions to Brissac-le-Haut will be sent a few weeks before the start of your holiday, once you have decided your route.  You can approach Brissac from the East, SouthWest, or from Montpellier.

  • By car, Brissac is approximately 11 hours from Calais, driving down the A6 or A75 autoroutes, then following our driving instructions for the last part of the journey.  From the East you approach through Nimes.  From the SouthWest, you approach through Beziers, or if coming down the A75 through Le Vigan. Avoid driving through Montpellier if at all possible.

  • By air, the nearest airport is Montpellier (MPL), but any other airport in the region will do as well: Nimes, Beziers, Perpignan, Carcasson and Avignon are all easier to begin your journey than navigating Montpellier’s nightmare roads, even with those pictorial driving instructions.

  • By train, for instance from Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, again it is worth avoiding Montpellier by alighting at Nimes.  From London it is a pleasant day’s trip to take the Eurostar toward Paris, then change at Lille to the TGV for Perpignon which stops at Nimes and Montpellier. Or  in summer there is a direct train from London to Avignon, which is a two-hour drive from Brissac.

When choosing a flight or train, make sure that the local car hire office will still be open even if your flight or train is several hours late.
